Territorial Christmas began as a hometown holiday
event in the 1995 when a group of Guthrie
merchants and citizens decided to celebrate
Christmas as it had been in the early days of the
Oklahoma Territory after the Land Run of 1889.
As the 1890's and early 1900's were a part of the
Victorian and Edwardian Eras, many artistic and
architectural influences from that time were
already a dominant part of Guthrie's landscape.
Because Guthrie had been designated to be the Capital of the Indian and Oklahoma
Territories and subsequently the Capital of Oklahoma as the 46th State, nothing
was spared in making Guthrie a showplace for fine fashion, entertainment and
It was this history that made A Territorial Christmas a natural extension of our past.
With an emphasis on the Victorian Era, Downtown Guthrie and the adjoining residential
district is a natural backdrop for an elaborate, multi-faceted festival that has survived
into the twenty-first Century.
In 2013 the Territorial Christmas Committee became the Guthrie Territorial Christmas
Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) which operates with a eight member board and is
dedicated to promoting Guthrie and family oriented events throughout the Christmas
